Who would have thought that some types of mushrooms have magical health benefits? Research by Research Associate Professor Min Zhang, University of Western Australia School of Population Health on the positive effects of eating mushrooms for women in China, shows that they do. The Agaricus family of mushrooms have a special magic, which has largely disappeared. unnoticed, which can give us a healthy high.

Current research

Joint research by Zhang of the University of Western Australia and Zhejiang University in China found that eating mushrooms and drinking green tea may protect against breast cancer. Zhang reported that breast cancer was the most common type of cancer among women worldwide, and its rate was increasing in both developed and developing countries. Interestingly, the incidence of cancer in China was four to five times lower than in developed countries. The study hoped to show whether this could be due to the use of dried and fresh buy magic mushrooms and green leaf tea in the traditional Chinese diet. Mushrooms, mushroom extracts, and green tea had shown anti-cancer properties that were believed to boost immune responsiveness against breast cancer.

Mushroom and green tea consumption was monitored by 2,000 women, aged 20 to 87 in relatively affluent southeast China. Half of the women were healthy and the rest had confirmed breast cancer. In the interview, fresh white mushrooms, Agaricus bisporus, and dried aromatic mushrooms, Lentinula edodes, were found to be the most commonly consumed mushroom species. Some of the women in the study did not consume mushrooms or green tea, while others enjoyed both up to three times a day.

The results of the study showed that the combination of a dietary intake of mushrooms and green tea decreased the risk of breast cancer with an additional reduced effect on cancer malignancy. Zhang concluded that, if consistently confirmed in other research, this inexpensive dietary intervention may have potential implications for protection against the development of breast cancer.

Dr. W. J. Sinden of the University of Pennsylvania and Dr. E. D. Lambert of Lambert Laboratories were the first to present the results of their research on the medicinal compounds of Agaricus blazei. How do mushrooms help fight cancer?

The Agaricus blazei mushroom is made up of Beta-(1-3)-D-glucan, Beta-(1-4)-a-D-glucan, and Beta-(1-6)-D-glucan. Known as Beta Glucan, these immune system enhancing substances have been proven to have very powerful anti-tumor properties. Although they do not directly cause the antitumor effect, they trigger the body's own antitumor response. The body produces a type of anti-tumor white blood cell known as natural killer cells (NK cells), making the level of NK cells in the body relatively easy to measure.
